Friday demolition brought a more thorough clearing of the kitchen and bath area. Jeff and Josh brought along a third pair of hands (Robbie) to help out. The old linoleum and subfloor is gone and we can get a clearer look at the original birch floor. A small area given the amount of square footage. A gazillion staples permeate the flooring as evidenced by the few samples I pulled out. Old tube and knobs showed themselves.
Adam has identified a curious beam with some joists being completely compromised by earlier adaptations. A plan of action may require a structural engineer. One end of the beam is supported by...one loose two by four.
We're taking a weekend break, so check back next week when we may very well; 1) see through to the the ground? 2) see through to the basement? 3) reveal the steps and landing? 4) see the return of Jeff and crew? 5) see Adam solve the beam mystery and all that it entails? 6) save the old floor? 7) hotter weather? Stay tuned.
