Yesterday morning we woke up and received a sign. In our yard. From our architect, Joe Metzler. We are hoping for another sign soon. From our builder, Terra Firma.
Here's a bit of background on our project from Liz: When I bought the house 12 years ago this fall, I knew I wanted to renovate the kitchen and first floor bathroom. In a few years, I thought, with the confidence of someone who had never tackled a renovation project before. Instead of the kitchen, in a few years I tackled a more urgent project: fixing our garage, which was built into the hillside and always wet. With the help of a structural engineer, a general contractor and six subcontractors, I turned our garage from a wet cave into a mostly dry cave.
Fresh from the glamour and expense of that project, I decided to wait another few years before turning to the kitchen. Then I got distracted by smaller projects. Then John and I met and then we got married. We learned that our kitchen, which seemed so handy for one cook, was really not designed for two cooks. In the interest of marital harmony, I bowed out of cooking. For anyone who has eaten John's cooking, you know how lucky I am!
Despite my husband's wonderful cooking, I do like to cook and bake now and again. And it would be nice to have a permanent heating system for the kitchen and first floor bathroom (more on that later). So, twelve years later, we are finally about to start our kitchen renovation!
